Owie owie ouchies, Kero moaned in his head. That hurt. He slowly tried to get up. He grunted in pain when his paw touched the ground. His right foreleg was hurting, and it felt like his side was on fire. Maybe it was?

He squinted at his side, and was relieved to see that it was not being consumed by flames as he had feared. So he wasn't too badly off. He was alive, that was good. And if he didn't breathe too hard, and floated instead of walked, then his leg would be okay until it stopped hurting. Yue was near, good. Two hands were better than one.

"Get the goons first, you fool!" He shouted when he saw that Yue was going after the leader. Damn, Yue must've not heard. He watched as Yue realized that going after the leader would allow the goons to attack him.

He floated up, till he was two feet from the ground. Out of the corner of his eyehe could see the Li kid fighting with that warrior. He could take care of himself, though, so Kero didn't worry too much about him. But the others were still there, probably about to aim at the golden lion again...

He leaped, dodged another of those red bolts, and threw himself into the act of flaming. He tried to fry the first goon to a crisp, but the minute he tried the other one would fire at him, and he couldn't leave himself like that with his guard down. He jumped on one, slamming him into the ground, sheilding himself with his wings to protect from Goon Number Two and his lightning bolts of doom. Ouch ouch ouch, his leg and his side and his wing...

He got up, and noticed that Yue had leaped onto Goon Number Two, which was awesome because it meant Kero could take care of Goon Number One without worrying about letting his guard down. So he let loose a huge fireball, which made Goon Number One turn tail and run. He could hear Sakura screaming, could feel the drain on her magic, but when he turned to see if he could help, the G.N.O. started attacking him again.

Dodge, growl, flame, dodge, jump, scratch, dodge, snarl...Kero felt like he was in a video game, and someone somewhere was furiously pressing Up-A-Left-Down Arrow-B, and shouting at the TV.

Eventually, he managed to corner the guy and knock him down hard enough for the goon to have trouble getting up. Down and out! Yeah Kero! 1,000,000 points for the good side! Whoo-hoo!

And he could see Yue nearby, standing and looking smug.

"Thanks for the help," Kero grinned. "Not that I needed it."

Yue looked annoyed. "You were on the ground until I came, you arrogant glutton."

"What?! Who're you calling an arrogant glutton?!" Kero roared. He was about to leap at Yue until he felt another pull on Sakura's magic.

    SAKURA!

He turned, with Yue, to see where the sorceror was lying in a pool of blood. So that was over, then. Only thing left is to chase off the goons and then time to sleep and rest his leg. Hah! He knew they'd win. They had the great and powerful Cerberus on their team, you know!

    [Action] Seeing red
Normally, when Kero heard good news, he'd jump for joy and call for pudding. This time, though, he didn't even think about treats, just went over to where Sakura said the people were waiting. No time even to examine the note, to plan, to do anything other than rush after Sakura.

That was probably going to be a problem later.

He went into his big form as quick as he could when they stopped at the school. He'd need to be ready in case somehing happened.

He could see the five men. The most powerful sorceror of the group--that one should be taken out the moment the goons were out of the way--the warrior by the side with the sword (Isn't that the guy from the other night that attacked the kid?!), and the lackeys.

He growled when he heard the insulting taunt of the evil sorceror. That guy must be the leader, in the movies it's always the leader who talks the most. How dare he! sakura wasn't stupid! He would never choose someone who wasn't worthy to be the Master! Was he saying that the great and ancient Cerberus didn't know how to pick the right people?!

    How dare he!

He waited for the men to attack, which would mean Sakura would let him fight back. Fortunately he didn't have to wait very long. He flew up, and started flaming at one of the three goons. He was startled when the flames began to hit him. He burned one, left him in a ring, and flew over to Sakura just in time to push her away from some red bolt that would have killed her.

Something was wrong, he could feel Sakura's magic fading. Not good not good what's happening?

Shield was acting up, Fiery and Windy were going haywire, and then Shot started to chase him, even though he was yelling at it to stop and think for a second at who it was shooting!

He ran around a tree, causing Shot to miss him and zoomed over to blast a goon into next January. HA! One-hit K.O.! Go Kero! Who's the man? Who's the--

And then a flash of red light, and Kero hit the ground with a crash.

    [Action, Saturday]
One minute he was asleep, happy as could be, the next minute the Li kid was pounding on the door gasping that the mysterious attacker from the night of the nightmare had kidnapped Tomoyo. It worried the hell out of Kero, enough to fully wake him up from his nap. Was Tomoyo okay? She usually kept calm almost always, but what did those guys want from an innocent teenager? She didn't even have any magic to be a prize for them.

What could they want? They were obviously planning something, but what? What were they planning to do?

Kero hoped they wouldn't find out the hard way.

But there was nothing to do, they couldn't track down the kidnappers, they couldn't find Tomoyo, they couldn't do anything, just sit and stare at the table, hoping something would happen. Kero was just as nervous and anxious as everyonje else, and he flew around the house several times until he was told to please stop, he was making people dizzy.

So he went outside to fly around, and guard the house. He felt Yue and Ruby Moon come near occaisonally, but he didn't abandon his watch to say hello. No point, they probably knew as little as he did about what had happened.

Why would anyone want Tomoyo? He'd thought that the target was Sakura! They could sense magic, they wouldn't have just taken the wrong girl by accident! So maybe she was bait or something? That would make sense. But bait for what?

He was too nervous even to munch on a chocolate bar. I sure hope the girl is okay, he thought.

    [Action]
Kero usually knew what he had to do in many situations. Card attacking someone? Capture it! Someone wants to know information? Tell them! Feeling tired? Sleep! Feeling bored? Eat! Or play video games! Someone hurt a friend? Vengeance!

...But what do you do if the person you care about was hurt by someone else you care about? You can't exactly come up to your Mistress's boyfriend and say, "Hiya, my name's Cerberus, you hurt my brother, prepare to DIE!" And you can't attack the one who hurt your Mistress if it means hurting the brother you've known all your life.

With Tomoyo he had known what to do, because her father had deserved it, and Kero was proud of the fact that he had made him go away without even having to hurt him too much. Just the sight of him struck fear into the guy's heart, which was, of course, what had happened when he got a good look at the most magnificent being to ever grace a hotel room.

But this was different. This wasn't a friend facing just anyone, this was between Sakura and Yue and Yukito and Ruby Moon and the Li kid. What was he supposed to do? Bang their heads together and tell them to get along and make up? What do you do when you don't want anyone to be hurt, but there's no way to do anything without taking sides?

He'd overheard Sakura talking to Tomoyo about it, and he knew that she must have been just as upset as Yue and Yukito about what had happened. And Yue had emailed him, and he didn't know what to say or do at all. The only one who Kero could see had done something totally wrong without cause was the Li kid--why would he just hurt Yukito lie that? Especially since that would only make things worse? The idiotic nincompoop.

He'll deal with the kid later. He had to reply to Yue's email.

    [Action, backdated to yesterday]
Kero, when he wanted, could have extreme patience and focus. So he waited and waited and waited for the sky outside to grow dark, and for Hiroki to come back to his room and eat dinner. He waited for him to make his phone calls and yell at his lawyer. He waited for him to finally change into his pajamas and climb into bed.

Kero waited until Daidouki Hiroki was snoring in his bed before changing to his big form. He stretched his wings, then his back, spreading his claws so that they made lines on the wood. Normally he cared about destroying property, but he didn’t give a frozen fudge-sickle whether the bastard got sued for damages. He was stiff after hiding under a small suitcase for hours and hours.

He hopped lightly onto the bed, using his wings to float so that there wasn’t too much pressure on the mattress. He hovered over the sleeping businessman, then jumped into a crouch with his front paws on Hiroki’s chest.

Hiroki awoke with a gasp. “What the hell?!” Kero could feel him trying to inhale and shifted his weight a little so that he wouldn’t be choking to man.

Nah, choking and suffocation is too good for him, Kero thought. He could see the outline of Hiroki’s arm grabbing for the light switch.

    The light went on.

Hiroki went very, very, very still.

“Hi there,” Kero said. Hiroki just sat there, trying to get over his surprise, before the shock kicked in.

“What the hell?!” He screamed. “There’s a LION in my BED! What—”

Kero pressed down with his paws. Gently, but enough to hurt. Hiroki let out a gasp.
“I suggest you shut up,” Kero said. “Before I get impatient and want a snack.” Kero smiled. A very big smile. A very big, toothy smile.

“I can get hungry quite easily,” Kero added.

Hiroki went pale, as fright fought with shock for a place to sit. “Who…What do you want from me?! If it’s food or money—”

Money? The idiot actually thought that he wanted money? Ridiculous!

“I’m not here for money or food,” Kero said. “I’m here for a different reason. You,” he said with a smile, “You, were talking with a friend of mine today. A good friend,” Kero added, lifting his foreleg to flex his rather sharp claws. Hiroki’s eyes followed it as it rotated under Kero’s casual gaze. “I think you might know her. Her name’s Tomoyo.”

Hiroki gulped. "I have every right to do that! I'm her father! I--"

Kero glared at him. “I don’t like it when my friends get hurt by people who claim to be family. You're gonna pay for treating her like that. And for blackmailing her and threatening her friends! Get out of bed."

Hiroki hesitated, then scrambled out, keeping his eyes on those claws.

Kero didn't want to kill him, obviously. Kero wasn't a killer, and it wouldonly cause more trouble for Tomoyo, probably. That wasn't good, so Kero decided to keep it low-key. Hard to forget, but low-key. Kero barrelled into him, knocking him flat to the ground. Hiroki let out a gasp as the weight of a large lion hit him. He was going to be lucky if he came out alive, Hiroki thought.

He was lucky. But not very.

See, after an hour of insults and near-chomping, Kero thought of having something else come at him from his mouth.

Like the scratches on the floor, he didn't really care about the scorch marks. just another way to damage Hiroki's purse.

It did set off the smoke detectors and sprinkler system, though. So Kero left soon after that. And Hiroki just sat there, looking for the creature that had come and gone with very few traces.

[Action] A game of cat and mouse
Kero couldn’t believe it when he had heard that man talk to Tomoyo like that. Nobody talked to Tomoyo like that. It was one of the unwritten laws of the universe: The world turns, the world alternates between winter and summer, the world has gravity, people are polite to Tomoyo.

The point was, to see someone threatening Tomoyo was like seeing a tuna ride a unicycle. You would never believe it.

Kero still wasn’t sure if what he’d overheard hadn’t been the product of too much exercise and too few puddings and sweets. But there was no denying the fact that Tomoyo looked sick, like she might throw up again, and Kero was disgusted by how that man had treated her.

He listened as she told the story with increasing anger. No one talked to Tomoyo like that! Tomoyo was one of the best people in the world! How dare he threaten one of the nicest humans to walk the planet!
And threatening Sakura and the kid! That was out of line. It made him even more angry. That was—that was blackmail! They had to be warned, they needed to be on their guard!

“Wait, do you think Sakura could put up Shield to block bullets? Or the brat could use some of his magic to repel them—Great, more security on Sakura and now the Li kid! D’you think they could—“

"You can't tell Sakura-chan or Li-kun!" Tomoyo exclaimed!

“Not tell them?! Why not?! They, they might get hurt by that wacko! That guy is nuts! He might kill them! They’re in danger!”

"No, they're not, not as long as I do what he wants." Kero frowned. Tomoyo seemed very resigned to this whole thing. That’s what she sounded like, anyways.

“Won’t he just keep threatening you with it, then?” Kero was very angry that Hiroki could just do that without getting punished. It wasn’t right! “You’ll never be free from him if he’s always got power over you. You’ll be stuck with him forever trying to keep him from hurting them.”

"It doesn't matter. I'll do whatever it takes to keep them safe. He
won't hurt them, Kero-chan, I'll make sure of it."

“What?! You’re just going ta sit back and do nothing? Just let him walk over you like that?! Aren’t you going to do something?”

Kero was really furious. This guy had not only scared poor Tomoyo enough to make her throw up, but now he was making her give in! He had to do something! Like the Li kid seemed to have done! Well, Kero was a Guardian, wasn’t he? What does a Guardian do? Guard! And protect! He could probably do a better job than the kid anyways—that was what he had been created to do!

But first…He looked at Tomoyo. “Do you want me to come with you to get a cab? Do you have your phone?”

Tomoyo shook her head. She wanted to be alone for a little while. So after making sure she’d be okay—poor kid, she looked really bad—he set off to find that evil guy who threatened the wonderful Tomoyo.

Now all he had to do was find the dratted guy.

    Let's see...

Kero flew up high, and loked carefully for a red sports car in the streets. Shouldn't be hard to find...Let's see, red sports car, red sports car...

There! It had been parked besides a small, high-class cafe. Hmph. That monster could just upset one of the nicest girls you ever et and then went out for lunch. Well, it was good for Kero, anyways. It would have been hard to find him if he had already left Tomoeda while Kero had been talking to Tomoyo.

He zoomed down, keeping to the sides of a building, then hovered under some bushes to hide. He quickly darted down under the car, and hid behind one of the tires. Was there a window open?

Hmmm. Didn't look like it. So he decided to wait until a door opened.

He didn't have to wait long. He dashed in with Daidouji Hirkoi as the man climbed into the car, then moved to the backseat.

And he stayed in the car until the car parked at a ritzy hotel. Then he stuck close to his prey, as the bastard walked into the hotel.

Daidouji Hiroki was going to pay so badly.

[Action, backdated to yesterday, following Sakura's post]
Huh. Huh huh huh. Kero sat and thought as Sakura told him what had happened on the mountain. She couldn’t have done it to herself, so it wasn’t her trying out some new magic trick, probably. She wouldn’t do it while speeding down a mountain. Maybe she didn’t know she was doing something? Nah, that made no sense. She would know if she was unconsciously performing magic; it wasn’t a subconscious thing like breathing when asleep.

He got lost in thought as she first went on the phone and then went to greet whoever it was at the door. If she wasn’t the one doing magic that would drain herself and make herself dizzy, then it would have to be something else.

“Parasites,” he muttered, as Sakura came back up with some books and a package. He looked up at her and tried not to ask about what was in the package. It smelled like food, and Sakura probably would get mad at him if he asked for some. Waaaaaah! He hated diets! They were evil, like a big, black, insincere, spider. They were the worst inventions of mankind! They existed just to torture him! There was no thing more out of place in this beautiful, tasty-full, puddingful world than diets! Diets were—

He was shaken out of his thoughts when Sakura asked him what he meant by “parasites”. Oh yeah. That.

“Well, when you’ve been practicing your magic, then unless you’re careful anyone can see where you spread it out. That’s your aura and what you sense when someone else does magic.
And if you aren’t careful, then someone can feel it, and if someone can feel it then they can touch it, and if they can touch it they can get a hold of it and suck it up. Like a parasite. Or a leech. It just latches on and holds on tight.”

Sakura looked thoughtful. “That's kind of how it felt. Though more like it was being ripped from me from the inside out.”

“Some sort of parasite-type of magic, then.” Hmmm. Whatever it was has been doing it for a while, too, and only now tried to actively do something. When she was alone and isolated on a snowy mountain.

Kero’s thoughts right then could be summed up accurately in just four words:

    This is Not Good.

So he told her what he thought. "You should find out what's going on. We can't fight whatever it is that's trying to suck you dry until we learn what it is. Have you had any dreams or visions?" He listened to the description she gave of a nightmare she had had recently. Huh.

Ooo, an idea! "Maybe we ought to try a divination! That would give us a lot of information about your parasite! And then it might warn us of further trouble. But don't do it if me or Li isn't around-- if they have a chance to get at you again when you're off your guard, then they will. I don't know if Shield would work against something like this."
He stared at her, worrying, for a moment.
“Whatever you do, Sakura, don’t go out and do anything magical unless someone’s with you! Like me! Or the Li brat! Or Yue!”

But no, that wouldn’t do. Can’t take Kero with her everywhere she goes, oh no. What would he do when she was in school? And if he’s grounded, then Sakura won’t want him following her. But she doesn’t have to know…

Time for Undercover Investigator Kero to put on his sunglasses again.

    Yue,

I'm sorry I said what I did about no one missing you if you were to sleep forever. I didn't know it would hurt you so badly. I didn't mean it, you know, I just wasn't paying attention to what I was saying right then. I don't want you to disappear--do you know how worried we all were when you went into yourself this year? I don't want that to happen again. You're family. You and me, we're brothers, we're counterparts. We got to stick together, buddy!

Merry Christmas everyone! Even to all you brats out there! Ho ho ho!

Eriol and Yukito and Sakura and Fujitaka 'Tou-san are the greatest! The log, the pudding, the cookies, the PSP (even though I wanted the new X-box, but the PSP is just as fun, right?), the food, the candy, the candy cane, the tree...

Sakura wants me to save something for later and not eat it all today, but how can one dilute the joy of Christmas and not eat as many yummy treats as possible? Does she want me to not have the best Christmas experience?! 'Tis the season to be stuffed with stuff, for pudding's sake!

Now I need to get my presents sent out to people! It's the I have to send Eriol and Yukito something, and I need to give Sakura her present, and Tomoyo hers...

I'm going to go talk to Move and Create right now. Heehee.

[OOC: Happy Holidays, guys. Eriol, Yukito, Sakura, Tomoyo, and Fuji-muns, I'll email you about what Kero is going to give your characters in return.]

    [Action, backdated to Saturday afternoon]
Kero flew over to the large mansion. Tomoyo was expecting him, so he didn't have to worry about maids or servants seeing him, which was good. And they would have the whole kitchen to themselves! Because they were going to make cookies! And he was going to be able to taste-test every single batch!

Life couldn't get any better. He was singing this to himself in his head.

Although when he got there, He had to try and find a window that opened into the room Tomoyo was in. She wasn't in her bedroom or anything. When she finally noticed him and let him in, she said, "Kero-chan! I wasn't expecting you. I thought you had changed yor
mind about coming, since you hadn't apologized to your friends."

Dammit! He'd been hoping she wouldn't remember, but he forgot that Tomoyo usually did. He didn't really want to--after all, he was completely right! He tried to think of an excuse that he knew Tomoyo would accept, but... So he promised he'd put up one when he got home. But no, that wouldn't do for her, she made him do it on her own computer. How Humiliating! How degrading for the great and magnificent Cerberus!

But when he was done they went down to the kitchens to start the cooking, so all was forgiven.

Kero was so happy. "Cookies! With chocolate chips! Cookies with icing! And those little cakes with the cream filling! And muffins!" IT was nice to be allowed to rave about one of his favorite toppics without worrying about Yue or Yukito or Sakura. He noticed that Tomoyo seemed to be relaxed too, and that was of course normal. Who wouldn't be happy when the super-splendid Kero was around?

The wait for the food to be taken out of the oven was painful, and Kero informed Tomoyo of his opinions on this through an ode composed on-the-spot of his own composing.

"O! How long shall I wait for you, my darling confection of sweet!
Your time apart from me makes me want to weep in defeat!
But son we'll be together, my lovely pastry and I
And You'll be going to my tummy, and that is not a lie!

This brought down a maid to see who was making all the noise, but Kero thought that Tomoyo covered it up pretty well. He got to taste a few more of the goodies, but then people were starting to come into the kitchen to prepare for dinner, so Kero and Tomoyo thought that he should go.

Before he left, though, Tomoyo asked him to let Sakura know that she missed her and was there if she needed her. That was a little discomforting. But then, this was Tomoyo. So Kero agreed, and flew away.

Action, backdated to Saturday] A special delivery
Kero flew out the window, trying to hold the pie up in the air. It was heavy, for a pie. He wasn’t expecting it to weigh so much. He tried to imagine what would happen if he dropped it. Sakura would be sad and angry that he dropped it. Yukito would probably not know. But still.

If he dropped it, then he’d be seen by the people below who would get splattered with pieces or pastry and squash.

All that steaming, golden, lovely pumpkin smashed to bits on the pavement. Ants crawling on it. The aroma wafting into the air would be blown away, never to be smelled again.

Kero’s eyes filled tears just thinking about all that delicious pie, gone forever.

And then he noticed that unless he concentrated on the package, that horrible calamity would be reality. So he shifted his arms, and flew a little more slowly. He could use the extra time. He wasn’t sure what to say yet to Yukito.

Hi, guess what! Touya spilled to Sakura what’s going on!

Hey boys, you might want to talk to Sakura, because Touya emailed her and spilled the beans!

I’ve got big news! Sakura now knows everything!

…Nah, that wouldn’t work. Yue would get mad at him, and Yukito would get all wibbly and Kero hated to see friends cry. And then he’d have to explain that he wasn’t the one who let the cat out of the bag.

He hadn’t meant to look at Sakura’s email. He usually didn’t, because they usually were from the Brat or his cousin or something. But Sakura had just stared at it for ages, then printed it out and sat there some more, and then just left it lying there on the desk, and Kero had let curiosity get the better of him. He felt kind of guilty at first, but he thought that it didn’t matter because he already knew most of it. Except for one thing.

Boy oh boy oh boy, this was something Yukito or Yue might want to know about. Poor guys. He didn’t really think it was fair. It wasn’t their faults at all that Touya left them. No way.

Kero made a mental note to put Touya on the List. There were quite a number of people on the List already, so one more wouldn’t hurt.

…Crunchy Crispy Crackers, this pie smelled good. Kero was lucky he made it to Nakuru’s apartment before the smell of pumpkin drove him bananas. He tried to tap on the windowpane, but he couldn’t do that and hold the pie up in the air at the same time! And he certainly wouldn’t be able to tap the glass with his head! He would be forced to hover there and yell.
    So he hollered.
“Hey! Snow rabbit! Yue! Somebody! Lemme in, will you?!”

    [Action]
Faster than a speeding Dash, more powerful than a Power card, and able to eat twenty time his weight in cake without getting sick, Kero flew through the trees, keeping to the shadows. When he reached the apartment building, he flew up until he could see through the window he wanted.

He rapped on the glass a few times, but nobody came.

"Come on, Yue! Open up!" This wasn't very effective, to Kero's disgust. He pounded on the window some more. Maybe he should have called first? Nah, Yue should have known that Kero would want to drop by after what he let slip when they were arguing. So why wasn't he there?

This didn't work any more than the first time he tried, plus it made his paws hurt. He peered into the room. Maybe they went out shopping? That didn't seem right, though. It looked...empty. As if no one had been living there for a while. The basket of laundry that usually was by the hallway when he came wasn't there, and there weren't the usual mugs and plates on the table. And his senses didn't seem to fel anything. Which was odd, because if Yue was there for a while then Kero would think that the magic sense would be in the room, but it wasn't.

Weird, Kero thought. Maybe he'd gone out. Whatever happened, it was up to Cerberus the Magnificent to pick up the trail!

So that was what he did. It was very faint, but he found it near the front of the building. It was hard to feel it, with all the coming and going of dozens of people everyday. But he found it. He followed it as best as he could, trying to remain hidden from sight of people walking by or standing around.

Strangely enough, it brought him to another tall building. Kero fumed. What were Yukito and Yue doing in there? It was very mean of them to do that if somebody wanted to find them. And it didn't look like it was going to be easy finding where in the building his counterpart was. He extended his magical senses to feel for Yue's aura. He finally found it and homed in on the sense, which was inside an apartment on the eighth floor. It was pretty strong, which meant that Yue had been there recently, and for a while.

    So Kero knocked.
